museums in Saskatchewan in 2008 and early 2009, The first stop will be
the Assiniboia & District Museum & Gallery beginning March 12
th, 2008.
"Museums play pivotal roles in community development. They are
democratic spaces that stimulate analytical thought. They are places
that celebrate ingenuity and creativity. Museums hold the visual
description of what life is about," says Brenda Sherring, Executive
Director of the Museums Association of Saskatchewan. "SaskTel has
changed the way we communicate. Its technology has brought people
together in a very real way. This partnership illustrates how
Saskatchewan is a province where new ideas, and ways of doing things,
are born."
The SaskTel Centennial Exhibit explores how the telephone system helped
connect the people of Saskatchewan, the community spirit behind the
development of the system and the way in which SaskTel continues to
connect citizens of Saskatchewan with each other and the world. MAS has
also developed a takeaway educational component that will make local
schools' museum visits a rewarding experience.
"This wonderful exhibit provides people across the province with a
unique opportunity to explore some of the history of SaskTel," said Ken
Chevaldayoff, Minister of Crown Corporations. "The efforts of our
predecessors to build a world class communications network in
Saskatchewan, despite great odds, can serve as an example of what we
can accomplish when we work together." |
