Advisory Services provides an immediate, individual learning
opportunity for museums seeking assistance in meeting their
institutional goals and objectives. The Service also helps museums to
operate according to accepted standards of excellence and acts as a
liaison between museum personnel and sources of expertise both within
and outside the museum community.
Advisory Services consists of two distinct, yet complementary,
components: an in-office information and referral service, and on-site
visits. The information and referral service provides access to
the collective expertise of the entire MAS staff, the holdings of the
resource library, as well as referral to outside individuals and
agencies as required. Advisory visits provide an individualized
learning situation for museum personnel experiencing specific problems
or wanting to achieve certain organizational goals. Advice provided,
through whatever means, is based on the system of standards articulated
in Standards for Saskatchewan Museums - 2002.
Advisory Services are free to members. There is a fee for
non-members. The one exception is for groups seeking assistance in the
initial planning or organizational development of new museums in which
case consultation services are provided free of charge. This exception
is necessary in order to ensure new museums are established based on
sound museum operational standards.
