Canadian Heritage

Cultural Spaces Canada program

As part of the overall stimulus package, the Federal Government announced in the 2009 budget an additional $60 million over the next two years (2009-2010 and 2010-2011) for the Cultural Spaces Canada (CSC) program. We encourage museums to take advantage of this new infusion of funding.
Cultural Spaces Canada supports the improvement, renovation and construction of arts and heritage facilities, and the acquisition of specialized equipment as well as conducting feasibility studies.

Heritage institutions can also apply for this funding to help them improve their facilities and invest in specialized equipment such as lighting systems, environmental control systems, storage systems, security upgrading and fire safety upgrading.
New to the program is a temporary increase in funding levels of support that can reach up to 50 percent of total eligible costs. This is up from previous support of 33 to 40 percent. Applications can be submitted anytime throughout the year.
Priority will be given to projects that clearly help stimulate the economy by creating jobs and offer long-term economic benefits. Museums adhere to these priorities, as they are important economic engines and creators of high quality jobs in communities across the country.
If you are interested in applying for funding you must contact a CSC Program Advisor at the Department of Canadian Heritage in your regional office before submitting an application.

A list of these offices can be found here: www.pch.gc.ca/pc-ch/cntct/regn-eng.cfm
Guidelines and application forms are now available on the Canadian Heritage website:
