Networks
Networks are regionally-defined groupings of MAS member museums. Each is unique with its own individual identity and ways of working. Networks meet regularly to share information & ideas, discuss issues & concerns and work together on joint projects. Each network appoints a volunteer Network Representative to coordinate its activities and provide a liaison with MAS staff and board. Networks are a valuable member group within the Museums Association and have become an increasingly important vehicle for consultation for both MAS board and staff.
The key roles for the networks are:
- to facilitate communication between:
- MAS board & staff and network members;
- Networks;
- museums within a network;
and - to facilitate collective activities and projects within individual networks.
The Network Knowledge Exchange is a network-based training opportunity designed to increase knowledge and build on skills. The Network Representatives work with MAS staff to ensure the Network Knowledge Exchange workshop meets the training needs of the network’s members.
Network operating grants of up to $500.00 are available annually to active networks to help offset the
operational cost of the network.

Special Interest Groups
The Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are member groups of the Museums Association of Saskatchewan and are an integral part of MAS’ education and professional development program.
A Special Interest Group (SIG) is a group of people involved in a particular area of practice, interest, or a specific museological field. SIGs facilitate individual and organizational development of the museum community by engaging in professional development activities, collegial and professional exchange, and other priorities as identified by the group members, such as advocacy and communication. These groups work together with MAS to further the advancement of museums throughout Saskatchewan.
This program is designed primarily, but not exclusively, for paid museum professionals who are mid-to-advanced career and work in mid-to-large sized museums.
