Ancient Echoes Interpretive Centre Summer Student Job Description - Heritage Interpreter
- Guiding in the Interpretive Centre and hiking in the ravine
- Interpreting the history, peoples and assets of the Coalmine Ravine through the story the artifacts and exhibits tell
- Reading resource material and learning scripts for programs
- Working with school groups and developing programming
- Working with the public and holding special events
- Helping with the daily maintenance of the collection, facility and grounds
- Improving displays and exhibits
- Work with marketing and publicity
- Cataloguing and storing of collection in a proper manner
- Will be expected to help in the gift-shop and tearoom when needed
Qualifications:
Students interested in Native studies, history, education, ecology, paleontology or eco-tourism should apply.
Person must be willing to promote and educate people about the history
of the area in a positive, enthusiastic manner. He or she must have good
public speaking skills and communicate well with a variety of age
groups. The person must be a good team member and adaptable to working conditions. The student will be supervised most of the time but will be on their own to complete some jobs. They should be self-motivated and creative. Previous experience working with the public, especially children would be a bonus. Student must be adaptable to small, rural living conditions. Our key focus is native history; First Nations students are encouraged to apply.
Student must have access to a vehicle for this position. Housing is provided for free.
Benefits for Candidate
Students will be hired from May 15th to Aug. 31st for approx. 35 hours
per. Week. Students will gain many things from the work experience.
Public speaking skills will improve as well as marketing skills.
Students will be given the opportunity to develop a special event of
their choice and market it to whatever target group that interests them
the most. Students will learn how to work with a volunteer base and
other staff members as a team. Students will acquire knowledge about the history, ecology and paleontology of this unique part of Saskatchewan.

galleries, we do virtual exhibitions on pirates and shipwrecks,
mountain movers and First Nations cultures, on cheesy commercials and
buckaroo cowboys.
We do exciting, interesting, bleeding edge sites.
Wanna join us?
We are looking for a developer to stitch and craft and
help us bring culture and history alive - but in a cool way. We're
looking for someone with at least 3 years experience designing and
developing web sites, or a related university degree. We want the
following but none of it is a deal breaker:
- proficiency in HTML, experience in Microsoft's Active Server Pages technology / Dot Net and web/database integration;
- Experience developing CSS websites;
- Experience using graphics packages;
- A keen sense of design;
- Independent judgment and initiative;
- The successful candidate must also be able to work independently as well as part of a team;
- A self-starter with good analytical and communication skills;
- Effective organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
- Integration utilizing Microsoft SQL Server 2000;
- Experience in Macromedia Studio;
- Experience in database design and technologies;

Prairie Wind & Silver Sage
- Friends of Grasslands is a volunteer, nonprofit organization based in
Val Marie, Saskatchewan on the edge of Grasslands National Park of
Canada. Its mandate is to assist the Park in its efforts to promote the
ecological integrity of native prairie landscapes and to increase
public understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of those landscapes.
As part of this effort PW&SS requires a shop
assistant to work with other staff and volunteers in operating a
museum, art gallery and gift store over the summer.
The successful applicant will work full-time, forty
hours each week for sixteen weeks between May 14 and August 31. (exact
start and end dates open to discussion) at a pay rate of $11/hour.
PW&SS will provide all training, including park orientation,
business practices and a food handling certification course. For an
employee from outside the area, PW&SS will assist in finding
accommodations in Val Marie for the summer.
To be considered you must:
• be enrolled in a post-secondary educational program
• be under 30 years of age
• enjoy providing information and assistance to the public
• be familiar with standard computer operations
Preference will be given to candidates who:
• can converse in French as well as English
• have a background in the natural sciences or outdoor recreation
• have retail store experience
